During the Raku process ceramic items are taken red-hot (up to 2000 degrees) from the kiln and then reduction fired & smoked in a container that may contain sawdust or oats. The smoke colors the cracks in the crackle glazes and the unglazed bottoms of the piece. This process brings out the unique colors, luster, and finishes found in Raku.
